When I was a child, reading was my prefered hobbie (I still love stories, don’t you?) I found in words the power of creating universes starting from simple ideas. Believe it or not, just think about that: We perceive and communicate reality, not only through our senses, but also through language. And by “language” means any kind of signs we use to interact (note: the science which studies that, is called “semiotics“).
Let me explain this by introducing you Borges: an argentine writer. He said of his father: “He revealed me the power of poetry: The fact that words are not only a communication media; instead of that, magic symbols and music”. And he used his words that way:
“…Your ancestor did not believe in a uniform, absolute time. He believed in an infinite series of times, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent, convergent and parallel times. This network of times which approached one another, forked, broke off, or were unaware of one another for centuries, embraces all possibilities of time. We do not exist in the majority of these times; in some you exist, and not I; in others I, and not you; in others, both of us.”

Could we transcend the linearity of time and choose all the options at once? Could we be at all times and places? I think that search guides my life: The artwork allows us to do that in a positive way as public as personal. The mass media approaches us to omnipresence. I have to confess that the engine that drives me to write, produce, design, singing, dancing … is largely the desire to exploit the creative power that resides in the languages and spread pieces of me everywhere.

Cuando era chico, leer era mi pasatiempo preferido (¡Todavía me encantan las historias!). Encontré en las palabras el poder de crear universos a partir de simples ideas. Lo creas o no; sólo piensa en eso: Percibimos y comunicamos la realidad, no sólo a través de nuestros sentidos, sino también a través del lenguaje. Y con “lenguaje” me refiero a cualquier tipo de signos que utilizamos para interactuar (nota: la ciencia que estudia eso se denomina “semiótica”).
Permítanme explicar esto presentando a Borges: un escritor argentino quien dijo de su padre: “Él me reveló el poder de la poesía: el hecho de que las palabras no son sólo un medio de comunicación, en lugar de eso, símbolos mágicos y música”. Y usó sus palabras de esa manera:
“…no creía en un tiempo uniforme, absoluto. Creía en infinitas series de tiempo, en una red creciente y vertiginosa de tiempos divergentes, convergentes y paralelos. Esa trama de tiempos que se aproximan, se bifurcan, se cortan o que secularmente se ignoran, abarca todas las posibilidades. No existimos en la mayoría de esos tiempos; en algunos existe usted y no yo; en otros, yo, no usted; en otros, los dos.”

¿Podemos trascender la linealidad del tiempo y elegir todas las opciones a la vez? ¿Podemos estar en todo tiempo y lugar? Creo que esa búsqueda orienta mi vida: Los trabajos artísticos permiten hacerlo de un modo positivo y tan público como personal. Los medios masivos de comunicación se acercan a la omnipresencia. Tengo que confesar que el motor que me impulsa a escribir, producir, diseñar, cantar, bailar… es, en gran parte el deseo de explotar ese poder creativo que reside en los lenguajes y esparcir partes de mí por todas partes.
